The different Restylane® formulas contain different particle sizes of the hyaluronic acid-based gel to allow either detailed shaping, moderate filling, or volume. The XpresHAn Technology™ in Restylane® Refyne™ and Defyne™ make the gel more flexible so you can fill in lines and wrinkles without limiting your facial expressions for a more natural-looking result. Restylane® is best for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (smile or marionette lines) plus lip augmentation.
Defyne™ can help smooth deeper lines and wrinkles (nasolabial folds and marionette lines) while allowing natural facial expressions.

The Restylane® family of dermal fillers has many formulas that are specially designed for many different signs of aging throughout the face, including fine lines, moderate to severe wrinkles, skin folds, age-related volume loss in the cheeks, and enhancing the fullness of your lips. Your ZO® skin care professional will listen to your needs and concerns before creating a treatment plan that may include one or more formulas of Restylane®. Restylane® can also be used with other treatment at ZO Skin Centre®, including BOTOX®, laser skin treatments, and custom ZO® facials for more dramatic improvements. All Restylane® products are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic uses in patients over 21 years old.
What to expect
After a thorough consultation to go over your medical history, current medications, and your cosmetic goals, Restylane® injections typically takes about 30 minutes in one of our comfortable treatment rooms. Based on the custom plan created for you, the injector will clean your face and apply a numbing cream, if requested. Since Restylane® uses a fine needle, most patients only feel mild discomfort when the needle is first inserted under their skin. After the treatment, you can resume your normal day, but should avoid strenuous activity and touching your face for at least 24 hours. Some patients may experience mild redness, swelling, bruising, or discomfort for a few days after their injection, but this should resolve quickly on its own. You may see some improvements immediately after your injection, but full results will develop over the course of several days. The results of Restylane® typically last 12 – 18 months, so you should talk to your injector about when to schedule touch-up treatments.
