To receive Kybella® injections, you should be over 18 years of age, in good overall health, and have realistic expectations. Kybella® should not be considered a weight loss method; it is for patients who are at a healthy, stable weight but still have stubborn pockets of fat in the upper neck area below the chin. Excess fat in the submental area that cannot be eliminated with natural methods may be caused by weight gain, genetics, or aging. Kybella® is currently only approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the submental area.
What to expect
After your consultation, Kybella® treatments typically last about 30 minutes as the ZO® team member cleans the skin and performs the injection. Several small injections are made in the submental area. Your ZO® team member will determine the best dose of Kybella® and help you decide how many treatments you should receive to meet your goal. You can have up to 6 treatments, performed at least 1 month apart. You may have some mild side effects, like swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and redness, but these are usually temporary and will resolve on their own. It will take time to see the results of Kybella® as the fat cells are eliminated from the body, but most patients are pleased with their final results.
